Fresh salon colour is one of life’s great pleasures — and watching it fade too soon is one of its small heartbreaks. The good news is that colour longevity is largely within your control. Here is how our colourists keep their own colour looking freshly done.

Wait 72 hours before your first wash

After colouring, the cuticle needs time to close and lock in pigment. Waiting three days before your first shampoo can dramatically improve how long your colour lasts.

Switch to sulphate-free, colour-safe products

Sulphates are harsh detergents that strip colour molecules with every wash. A quality sulphate-free, colour-protecting shampoo and conditioner is the single most impactful change you can make.

Turn down the temperature

Hot water opens the cuticle and lets colour escape. Wash in lukewarm water and give your hair a final cool rinse to seal in shine and pigment.

Wash less often

Every wash fades colour a little. Stretching time between washes with a good dry shampoo keeps your colour richer for longer.

Book a gloss between appointments

A professional gloss or toner refreshes tone, banishes brass and restores shine in under an hour — the perfect mid-cycle pick-me-up that extends the life of your colour.

Protect against heat and sun

UV rays and hot tools both accelerate fading. Use heat protectant before styling and a UV-protective product or a hat in strong sun, especially for blondes and reds.

Follow these steps and your colour will stay luminous for weeks longer. When it is time to refresh, we are always here to keep you glowing.
